Solar Eclipse Travel — the Adventure of a Lifetime

The 2026 total solar eclipse path will move over Iceland down to Spain, where it will cross the county from the northwest down to the southeast, just before sunset. Cruise lines are releasing itineraries and more are coming. So far confirmed with sailings in either Iceland or Spain include Holland America, Princess, Cunard, Azamara, and Norwegian Cruise Line.

And while 2027 is still years away, itineraries are already booking for what sky watchers are calling the “Eclipse of the Century” that moves over the Straight of Gibraltar, northern Morocco, and down to Egypt.

August 12, 2026. Iceland & Spain.

This eclipse will cross over Iceland and down to Spain, crossing from the Northwest to the Southeast before it ends with sunset. Eclipse travel always comes with the risk that the sky won’t cooperate, and the chance of cloud cover, depending on where you travel, can range from 30% to 50% for this eclipse. But, should you have clear skies, it will be a unique experience, especially from the eastern side of Spain where the eclipse will disappear into the sunset.

Cruises are especially ideal for this viewing because the ship can move to the view, maneuvering to avoid the cloud cover and keep the horizon clear (especially important for this sunset eclipse).

August 2, 2027. Morocco & Egypt.

This will be the Eclipse of the Century for many good reasons. While nothing is 100% certain, the chance of clear skies over Egypt in August are almost guaranteed. The eclipse will reach totality close to noon, so the sun will be almost directly overhead and free from blockage by trees or buildings. And, totality is expected to last over six minutes, the longest eclipse for almost one hundred years.
